Background
In 2009 I started to teach myself how to design and develop iPhone and iPod Touch apps. I wanted to see if I could create something useful that emphasized visual design, and could be successfully approved for sale in the App Store.

Actions
I looked to my interests in design history, typography, and photography for inspiration, and designed a literacy app about the alphabet for young children. This allowed me to create my own content, and provide what I hoped would be a useful challenge for young children: learning that letters can have different styles, shapes, and colors but still be the same letters. I designed three sets of letters inspired by Arts & Crafts, Bauhaus, and the London Underground, including taking 26 black and white photos of modern architecture in the Twin Cities area. I also included an extra screen for each alphabet to provide a brief history of design for parents.

Results
Apple approved ArtAlphabet and I sold the app from 2009-2014.
